Our Packaging
Planet-friendly presents packaged with love
We know that every order is chosen with thought and care, which is why we take the time to ensure that all Gluttonous Gardener products are beautifully presented.
Whether your gift is delivered in one of our signature wooden crates, recyclable boxes or wraps, we pride ourselves on making sure that it arrives carefully packaged and in tip-top condition.
As well as helping to populate the planet with as many plants and flowers as we can, we use the best reusable, recyclable and compostable packaging we can find. We’re not afraid of change, and we’re also quick to switch to new eco-friendly products and processes as they become available.
Our lovely wooden crates are designed to protect precious plants in transit, but that’s not all they are good at!
Once they have served their primary purpose of safely delivering your gift, the crates can be recycled and repurposed in a host of ingenious ways. How about a bug hotel, herb planter or toy box?
Feeling inspired? Here are a few of our favourite ideas to get you started…
Wooden Crate
- Herb or vegetable planter – Line the crate with plastic and pierce holes in the bottom for drainage. Add a layer of gravel or bark, and top with compost before planting your favourite herbs or vegetables.
- Apple storage – cover the base with newspaper, followed by a layer of dry apples. Repeat the layers, finishing with newspaper.
- Bug hotel – turn the crate on its side and balance it on two bricks. Fill with stones, twigs, bark, hollow stems and dry leaves in different layers.
- Storage box – fill it with logs for the fire, vegetables or toys.
- Kindling – Break the crate up and use it as kindling
Woodwool
- Keep plants clean – place around the base of strawberry plants to keep slugs and bugs away and keep the fruit clean.
- Nest making – scatter in the garden for wild birds to pick up for nest building
- Make firelighters – roll into balls to make fire or barbecue lighters. Read our eco fire lighter recipe to find out more.
- Compost – put it on the compost heap.
- Animal bedding – use as clean and toasty bedding for hamsters, guinea pigs or rabbits.
